Staying Informed
Those who, like me, spend many weeks a year in the Far East need and want to stay “tuned in” to current trends so that they don’t feel like a fish out of water during trips and always find the right key to interpreting what is going on.
Unfortunately, our usual sources of information almost never contain news about the Far East, so over time I have created for myself a selection of sources of various kinds that allow me to stay current.
Some are sites more of a cultural slant, others economic; some are blogs, others real magazines, take it as a cue to create your own selection.
Online News on China
Among the English-language sites with a predominance of China news I would point out East Asia Forum, NikkeiAsia, South China Morning Post, China Daily, ChinaFile, Caixin.
Caixin East Asia Forum Asian Review
In Italian, on the other hand, Cinaforum and China-Files are excellent.
News Online Far East
ASEAN countries can be explored in depth instead at asean.org, the official website, and Aseanup where there are both free and paid resources for analysis; the latter is geared toward potential investors in the area and thus contains guides on markets, taxation, benefits, etc. in individual countries.
If the interest is on technology, a podcast to listen to is Asia Tech Podcast.
Asia Tech Podcast EastWest CIA Factbook
Also very good, and in Italian eastwest.eu and Indika (specializing on India), information blogs with a more cultural than economic slant but always interesting.
In conclusion, if you are looking for specific data, an excellent source of detailed geopolitical and economic information on each country is The World Factbook of the C.I.A. 😉
Happy reading.
